Brazil held to goalless draw by Netherlands

© Reuters Brazil were held to a 0-0 draw by the Netherlands in a friendly on Saturday, with both goalkeepers responsible for the deadlock.

Playing with a three-pronged attack of Neymar and Robinho either side of centre-forward Fred, Brazil had a strong second half performance but could not get past inspired Dutch keeper Tim Krul despite creating a number of good chances.

The Dutch, without injured Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder who scored both goals when the Netherlands eliminated Brazil in their World Cup quarter-final last year, had two good clear opportunities in the first half with Ibrahim Affelay forcing two good saves out of Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar.

The game became bad-tempered, however, and ended with seven yellow cards and one red after Brazil had midfielder Ramires sent off in the 79th for a second bookable offence following a foul on Arjen Robben.

Since Mano Menezes replaced Dunga as Brazil coach after the World Cup, Brazil have beaten the United States, Iran, Ukraine and Scotland but lost to major opponents Argentine and France.

The draw against the Dutch at Serra Dourada stadium was Menezes' home debut.

Brazil are warming up for the Copa America in Argentina in July. They will host Romania on Tuesday in Sao Paulo in a match that also will be the official farewell game for the former World Player of the Year Ronaldo.
